Mirabilia and Gagiandra's Manifattura owe their existence to the trust and artistic sensibility of our partners. The companies that have made them a reality and the Casa dell'Ospitalità which has lent the Cooperative its premises. It is a pleasure to introduce them here.
Tessitura Luigi Bevilacqua
The Venetian textile heritage
25 eighteenth/nineteenth century hand looms still in use in its Santa Croce workshops. 3500 original designs preserved in the company's historical archive.
The Bevilacqua textile mill is living history, the story of an age-old art, renewed day by day in new velvets, damasks, lampases.
Hard, almost impossible, to describe adequately in words: best to rely on the images and extensive background information displayed on the company's website.
Tessuti artistici Fortuny
Mariano Fortuny, artist and innovator, chose Venice for his residence and as cradle for his creations. His home, Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei, is today a museum that bears his name.
Art, science and technology. His factory, founded in 1921, perpetuates his creative genius, still producing textiles to his designs and on machines invented by him. You can visit the factory's show-room, on Venice's Giudecca island, where a collection of the artist's memorabilia are on display.
A history of Venetian weaving and Mariano Fortuny's role in it can be found on the company's website.
Murano glass for Mirabilia's mini-mirrors: residues of high quality artisan work from the island's famous glass foundries.
SALIR is a Murano glass laboratory specialising in engraving and painting on glass, and in manufacturing faithful reproductions of antique mirrors.
A marriage of ancient traditions and new designs, the outcome of a host of artists and designers working together, whose work can be admired in the permanent exhibition displayed in the factory. Pictures and information on the company website.
Fondazione di partecipazione Casa dell'Ospitalità
The Casa dell'Ospitalità is a Venetian foundation providing a refuge for homeless people.
120 beds, legal residence facilities and support for men and women from Italy and abroad.
Much more than a temporary roof and a hot meal: as much time as necessary for guests to find their feet and accustom themselves to group living.
La Casa dell'Ospitalità also hosts La Gagiandra and Mirabilia, making a space available to the Manifattura workshop in its Venice headquarters.
